The North Node & Zodiac Signs

NNBasics

It wasn’t long after I started getting really into Tarot that Astrology also became a huge part of life for me. Finding out I had a Moon sign has been life changing! And though the entire subject is pretty fascinating, my absolute favourite aspects (little Astro joke there for ya) are the North & South Nodes. They may not be actual planets but they hold the keys to so much information about our lives.

So, if they’re not planets, what are they?

Also known as Moon/Lunar Nodes, the North & South Nodes represent mathematical points at which the moon’s orbit cuts the ecliptic – the path of our Sun. All of us have a specific placement for these nodes in our natal Astro charts & they are regarded by many as the maps to our life’s purpose.

Whatever Zodiac sign your South Node is in can help you to understand your strengths. It’s the node that represents your confidence & what you’re comfortable with; it’s where you’re coming from.

The North Node is what charts new territory, though; it leads the way! Whatever Zodiac sign your North Node is in, can help to illuminate the lessons you’re here to learn, the avenues you’re meant to explore, your path to evolution; it’s what you came here to accomplish.

Knowing what House your North & South Nodes fall in can help you to get even more specific about the messages they hold; they can clarify what areas of life you may want to focus your North Node goals in. For the purposes of this article, though, we’ll only be looking at the North Node through the Zodiac signs.

If you’re interested in diving deeper with your own North Node, then you may find resonance in a Tarot reading with me! Once my books are officially open, I’ll be offering two ways of learning more about your natal nodes – a personalized report you can add on to any Tarot reading, as well as a completely customized North-Node-focused Tarot reading. Both options will offer further insight into both the Sign and House placement of your natal Lunar Nodes, and how the information can be practically applied.

Let’s get started with Aries & Libra North Nodes

Anyone with their North Node in Aries or Libra, this is a lifetime of balancing individuality & relationships. You’re on a mission to find the harmonious middle ground between losing yourself in connections with other people & being so Me-First-focused that you never cultivate any deep bonds at all.

An Aries North Node must first accept or release their South Node (Libra) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the opportunities from Aries. Conversely, all Libra North Nodes must first accept or release their South Node (Aries) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the opportunities from Libra. Here’s a brief insight into what the North Node means in each sign.

Aries: Being in relationship comes naturally to you. You have a knack for compromise & negotiation. Creating harmonious environments is a strong suit. Denying your own needs, fear of independence, & an overemphasis on seeking external approval can all be issues. This lifetime encourages you to cultivate independence, strive for internal peace, fight for your beliefs, and take on leadership roles whenever possible.

Libra: You have an unshakable sense of self. You are daring & bold. Going after exactly what you want comes easy for you, as does innovation & leadership. Beware of impulsivity, aggression, & selfishness, though. This lifetime invites you to embrace collaboration & compromise. To release the Me First mentality & discover the power of partnership. Share your inner strength with others so they might find their own.

Taurus & Scorpio

For anyone with their North Node in Taurus or Scorpio, this is a lifetime of finding a balance between the spiritual & material worlds. You’re called to channel sexuality & sensuality, money & values, in healthy ways that keep you from sliding into extremism on either end.

A Taurus North Node must first accept or release their South Node (Scorpio) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the opportunities from Aries. Conversely, all Scorpio North Nodes must first accept or release their South Node (Taurus) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the opportunities from Libra. Here’s a brief insight into what the North Node means in each sign.

Taurus: You’re no stranger to intensity. You have a pretty strong handle on topics like death & transformation. Diving deep into life & unravelling its mysteries is your jam. You are immensely loyal to those you love. Releasing secrecy & shame, as well as an affinity for drama will be essential. This lifetime invites you to embrace simplicity & practicality. To develop a connection with nature, cultivate inner peace first, & form a firm grasp on value systems will all be key.

Scorpio: You’re hardworking & practical, patient & determined, & very in touch with your senses. You have a love for beauty & nature. Creating a sense of security comes easy. Overindulgence, needing to be a provider, & a resistance to leave your comfort zone can all become issues. This lifetime encourages you to release rigid value systems & cultivate strong bonds with letting go & transformation. Embrace the idea that there is more to this world than what’s tangible.

Gemini & Sagittarius

Gemini & Sagittarius are the signs of communication & learning. Anyone with their North Node in either of these signs may feel pulled between local & global pursuits. These placements can also indicate callings in teaching, spreading a message, learning, or writing.

A Gemini North Node must first accept or release their South Node (Sagittarius) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Gemini. Conversely, all Sagittarius North Nodes must first accept or release their South Node (Gemini) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Sagittarius. Here’s a brief insight into what the North Node means in each sign.

Gemini: You know what you stand for & can always see the bigger picture of a situation. You value freedom & travel, & tend to be optimistic about the future. That optimism can sometimes turn into a fixation, though, & this lifetime calls on you to practice presence. It also invites you to learn to listen deeply to others. Be open to seeing more points of view than your own. Flexibility, curiosity, & communication are key.

Sagittarius: You clearly articulate facts & ideas through both writing & speaking. You have a curious mind & networking comes easy. Be sure it doesn’t veer into gossip though, which can sometimes come from a deep need for external validation. This lifetime invites you to speak your truth & really trust in it. Try not to get fixated on small details; allow the bigger picture to take your attention. Step outside of your comfort zone through both travel & educational pursuits.

Cancer & Capricorn

For anyone with their North Node in Cancer or Capricorn, this is a lifetime of balancing personal & professional endeavours; home & work life; receptive & active energies.

A Cancer North Node must first accept or release their South Node (Capricorn) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Cancer. Conversely, all Capricorn North Nodes must first accept or release their South Node (Cancer) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Capricorn. Here’s a brief insight into what the North Node means in each sign.

Cancer: You’re dependable, grounded, & incredibly driven. There is no goal you won’t pursue with careful planning & steadfast determination. Rigidity, stubbornness, & a detachment from emotions might come too easily for you, & workaholic tendencies can manifest because of that. This lifetime invites you to embrace the softer sides of life. Nurture your compassion, embrace receptivity, & keep your heart open. Unburden yourself & practice better self-care.

Capricorn: You tend to create spaces where people feel nurtured, nourished, & safe. You’re protective, compassionate, & sensitive. Creativity & intuition come naturally for you. Codependency, shyness, & passivity are behaviours you may slip into easily. This lifetime encourages you to embrace leadership & independence. Stay grounded; nurture a logic-minded approach to create emotional stability. Cultivate good business & finance skills.

Leo & Aquarius

With a North Node in Leo or Aquarius, striving for balance between being a team player & standing solo in the spotlight is essential.

A Leo North Node must first accept or release their South Node (Aqua) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Leo. Conversely, all Aqua North Nodes must first accept or release their South Node (Leo) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Aquarius. Here’s a brief insight into what the North Node means in each sign.

Leo: You have a deep dedication to holism & contributing to causes you believe in. Making friends & working in collaboration comes easy. You detach from drama, which can be useful when fighting inequality but can also lead to complete indifference. You run the risk of being overly logical & pursuing intellect at the expense of your emotions & creativity. This lifetime encourages you to explore self-expression. To follow your heart, inspiring others to do the same; leading by example. Embrace creativity & don’t shy away from what you’re feeling. Try not to lose yourself in the group.

Aquarius: Passionate, creative, & expressive; your outlook on life is sunny & enthusiastic. You bring joy to others & leave them feeling inspired. You thrive in the limelight, but sometimes that leads to a sense of entitlement. Try not to make everything about you, or resist being part of your community. This lifetime invites you to embrace team spirit & find deep value in friendships. To channel your creativity in ways that can change the world for the better. You may want to utilize this very Aquarian age of technology we are living in.

Virgo & Pisces

With a North Node in Virgo or Pisces you may feel called to paths of service, specifically in health & healing. It’s possible you will overcome health challenges & go on to help others with theirs.

A Virgo North Node must first accept or release their South Node (Pisces) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Virgo. Conversely, all Pisces North Nodes must first accept or release their South Node (Virgo) tendencies, before cultivating & embracing the invitations from Pisces. Here’s a brief insight into what this means for each sign.

Virgo: Compassionate & sensitive, intuitive & spiritual, imaginative & artistic; diving deep into the receptive callings of life comes naturally to you. You express yourself creatively & are capable of making deep connections with others. But strong boundaries will be essential for you, because you run the risk of taking on the energy of others & even sacrificing your needs for them. This lifetime encourages you to say NO more often. To pay attention to the details & embrace the tangible. You can find ways of serving others that won’t sacrifice your own wellbeing in the process.

Pisces: Organization, analysis, & problem-solving are your strengths; the details never elude you. Health may be a big motivator. You are accountable, grounded, & know how to build strong boundaries. Perfectionism, workaholic tendencies, & a dismissal of your inner wisdom can all be issues. This lifetime encourages you to loosen your grip on the material plane. To embrace your creative side & dive deep into the oceans of intuition, imagination, and spirituality. Let go of high standards & surrender to the unfolding of life.
